Happy Birthday Prof. Emeritus Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka

There are father and there are fathers. Some are called fathers only because they are biological fathers, whereas others are called fathers because they play fatherly roles. But you are a father because you embody the very spirit of fatherhood.

You are a father because you are caring and compassionate. You are a father because you are God-sent. You are a father because you love everybody.

You are a father because you are indispensable. You are a father because you are an inspiration. Above all, you are a father because you are extraordinary in all disciplines.

Indeed, where everybody is sitting, you are that man who is seen standing. Where everybody is standing, you are that man who is seen as outstanding. And of course, where everybody is outstanding, you are that man who is seen as the standard.

You are the shining example of our ménage, and I am so much inspired by your astounding accomplishments despite your humble beginnings. The success story of this country cannot be written without the countless mention of your name.

Your passion and desire to succeed have always been formidable, and I must confess on how exulted I am to call you my Father. It is, without doubt, an immense joy and a divine blessing to have a true Hero like you for a Dad.

You are the secret behind my great steps and the many astounding victories that I have chalked in this life. You are a great pillar in every department of my life and that of the hundreds and thousands you are fathering.

You are our first hero; our champion; our benefactor; our friend; our hope; our mentor; our inspiration; our light; our guide; and indeed, our everything.

We cannot thank God enough for giving us an extraordinary father. We cannot thank God enough for giving us a father of all fathers. You were always the best example to follow and we are so proud of you.

On this special day in your life, I am pleased to join my immediate siblings including Hanny, Daniella and Ohene; and the rest of the world to CELEBRATE you dad. We wish you a long, healthy, prosperous and happy life.

Kantanka Automobile Sells Over 1,000 Cars; Calls For More Gov’t Support

As government contemplates a framework to regulate the importation of used and salvaged vehicles to pave way for global automobile giants planning to set up assembly plants in Ghana, Ghana’s sole local car maker, Kantanka Automobile Company Limited, is reminding the state of its promise to support them to expand.

The company, which says it has produced and sold over a 1,000 cars since 2017, wants government to intensify its support by persuading public institutions to patronize its vehicles.

Sales and Marketing Executive of Kantanka Automobile Company Limited, Ebo Safo Kantanka told Citi Business News “Although few of the municipal assemblies are using our vehicles, it must be a law for every municipal assembly or government institution to start buying from Kantanka so that this company will grow. It will be sad if in five years’ time Kantanka automobile will be no more. Every Ghanaian will be very sad. So we are just saying that let’s help Kantanka to grow”.

Kantanka Automobile Company Limited, which made history as one of Ghana’s few local car manufacturers, has an objective to create a niche market with diverse brands of vehicles that meets the income status of the citizenry.

Sales and Marketing Executive, Ebo Safo Kantanka says expansion works are currently ongoing at the company’s factory at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, to produce more cars to meet the growing demand.

Data available from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Customs Division, indicates that between 2005 and 2016, more than 1 million vehicles were imported into the country; representing an average of 100,000 cars per year.

Out of this figure, 80 percent were second-hand vehicles, with outmoded machinery whose carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) and fuel consumption might no longer be in conformity with the manufactures standards imposed in developed countries, and therefore, poses a threat to Ghana’s environment.

As a result, if a local car manufacturer like Kantanka gets the needed support, it can produce a significant number of cars alongside other global automobile firms seeking to assemble cars in Ghana, for the Ghanaian populace.

Currently, Kantanka Automobile Company pays duty on some of the parts it outsources from other countries despite government’s promise to offer them a ten-year tax waiver.

Gov’t to regulate importation of ‘second-hand’ and ‘accident’ vehicles

Parliament recently announced plans to put in place a regulatory framework for the importation of "second-hand" and salvaged vehicles, also known as accident vehicles. This is captured in the Customs Amendment Bill which is on the agenda of the house for consideration.

The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who disclosed this, said this has become necessary for the country’s emerging automobile industry. Automobile giants like VW, Toyota, Renault and Nissan, have all expressed interest to set up assembly plants in Ghana.

Ghana’s first female deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has launched a foundation that aims at empowering the vulnerable in the society, especially, women and children living with disability to realize their dreams.

To make great impact in the society, the Foundation promises to build a nursing home in each of the sixteen regions of the country while ensuring that children living with disability are integrated into the normal schools to ensure that they are well developed just like their peers.

Speaking at the launch of the Foundation at a ceremony held in Accra on Friday, October 11, 2019, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo said “Today heralds a new day and beginning. “The Foundation is not concentrating its activities only in Accra. We will be looking at all the 16 regions. One thing that has always been my dream is to continue the good work of my father who has been a humanitarian and philanthropist for so many years. Now the technological aspect of his life is taking the shine but he started off as a farmer and a humanitarian. He didn’t end there and he didn’t restrict himself to only Accra and so we will not restrict ourselves to only Accra. We want to build at least one nursing home in every region to take of our aged mothers who due to biological changes that come along old age are usually referred to as witches or they are mad or that and so are secluded from society and also for the disabled children or children living with disability. We want to be their voice that they should be integrated into our normal schools as normal children. This issue of stigma and keeping them in special schools, I think that they also have the right and research has shown that when they are allowed to integrate into the normal schools, they even develop better and feel an integrated part of normal children”, she explained.

How Apostle Safo Kantanka Is Reshaping Organic Farming In Ghana

The Chairman of Kantanka Group of Companies Emeritus Dr. Kwadwo Safo has been encouraging a shift from increasing yields into nonorganic to organic farming to improving quality of health.

Organic farming is well-placed to be part of the solution because of its strict limitations on fertilisers, pesticides and growth regulators.

The number of traders specialising in organic products in Africa remains few prior to its management difficulties.

The “Star of Africa” Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka and his team are reacting to the opportunity in Ghana and to the world.

Early 2019, Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, secured a total of 3,000 acres of land in Agogo in the Ashanti Region for commercial farms to create employment and ensure food security.

The move is not only to supplement the government’s policy of planting for food and jobs as well as the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda but a measure to protect healthy standards of Africans.

Already, he has over the past years successfully piloted a number of home-grown climate-smart agricultural technologies on a 10-acre farm at Gomoa Odembo in the Central Region.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo has disclosed this to a two-member delegation made up of Professor Kwabina Frimpong-Boateng, Minister of Environment Science Technology and Innovation, and Mr Oliver Boakye, Special Advisor to the Ministry during a visit to the Kantanka Organic farm.

Apostle Safo disclosed he has been using his own method of technologies to cultivate different organic indigenous traditional crop and spice varieties in food classifications including fruits, vegetables, tubers, aromatic spices that were nearly going extinct due to deforestation and modernity.

On his organic farm “One of my unique methods of planting yam and plantain is that I dig up to about 50 centimetres deep and first fill in my organic fertilizer before I plant. This helps the crop to grow well and get the needed space and fertility to attain maximum yield,” he explained.

Apostle Safo has however observed that many of the traditional plants, which were highly nutritious, are extinction and that the new farm will be use to cultivate the indigenous crops for Ghanaian consumption.

Though people opt for organic because they are concerned about food safety, genuine organic sellers including Kantanka Organic Standards may find themselves competing with a host of charlatans.
