CEO Calls On Veep To Support Local Vehicle Manufacturers With Policy Guidelines

The CEO of Kantanka Group as well as Kantanka Automobile made this statement when he paid a visit to the office of the Vice President yesterday 8th June 2017. According to him, the absence of an automobile policy governing and regulating the activities of automobile manufacturing and assembling companies was a hindrance to local manufacturers like Kantanka Automobile and new entrants to the industry.

Kwadwo Safo Jnr. bemoaned the fact that vehicles manufactured and assembled by the company were charged the same levies as vehicles manufactured and assembled by foreign competitors and imported into the country.

Explaining further, the CEO said the deficiency of an automobile policy has had adverse effects on the registration process of the company's vehicles and customers' of the company. He cited policies in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Angola and Egypt to back his statements and called on the Vice President, His Excellency Mr. Al​haji Mahamudu Bawumia to immediately probe into the matter as this will enhance the company's operations to serve the country better.

He said that enactment of such a legislation will enable the country to have a favourable automobile atmosphere that will encourage local companies such as Kantanka Automobile and any new entrants to the automobile manufacturing and assembling of vehicles.​

In a brief remark, the Vice President, Mr. Bawumia pledged his government's readiness​ to study existing best practices to help enact the required legislation to help indigenous automobile manufacturers to grow and thrive.

This request was made known to the Veep in his office at the flagstaff house. Accompanied the CEO was the General Manager of the company, Mr. Francis​ Kodjo Kudoji and a fleet of Kantanka brand of vehicles, Onantafo SUV, Omama and Kantanka K71 as these vehicles were exhibited at the office of the Vice President.
